Colonoscopy
To ensure a thorough examination of the colon during your procedure, you will need to take a prescribed liquid preparation by mouth. It’s crucial to follow the instructions provided and inform your physician if you encounter any issues with the preparation. Failure to take the preparation may result in an inadequate examination, leading to cancellation of the procedure.
Common preparations include Nulytely, Colytely, Miralax, Prepopik, and Citrate of Magnesia, with the choice determined by your physician. Each preparation comes with specific instructions, which you should review at least two days before your procedure. If you have any questions regarding your preparation, please reach out to your physician’s office.
Remember, a successful colonoscopy depends on thorough bowel preparation.
Upper Endoscopy Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
For an upper endoscopy, the primary preparation involves fasting from food and liquids after midnight before your procedure. If your procedure is scheduled for late in the day (after 2 PM), some physicians may permit small amounts of clear liquids up to four hours prior. However, this policy may vary by physician, so it is important to follow the specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
